Apnea in the heart of the subaquatic wonders of the creeks

Take a snorkeling and apnea session with an instructor and explore the aquatic riches of the Green Islands creeks, close to the port of La Ciotat !

While some of them go walking in the middle of the Provencal trails or climb rock faces, others prefer to dive underwater to observe the seabed. In the Creeks National Park in particular, there are numerous spots of diving thanks to which you can discover a rich fauna and subaquatic flora.

The Green Island is a very good example. It's an island that is part of the Creeks National Park, and its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the only wooded island of the Bouches-du-Rhone. During the summer season, a team of coastal supervisors is setting up surveillance rounds to prevent any fire hazard, as the start of fires are rapid in a region as dry and windy as Provence. From the port of La Ciotat, it will take you about 10 minutes by sea shuttle to reach the Green Island (12€ return for adults, 8€ for children under 10 years) to the apnea initiation in the creeks bordering the wooded islet. Accompanied by a specialized instructor, you will learn how to master your breathing through relaxation workshops and a quick training on the basic techniques of apnea. Scuba diving is an activity that teaches self-control, patience and control of its movements, all the more so in the context of an apnea dive : the repetition of too many gestures will make you unnecessarily waste 'oxygen.

Once under water, participants will be surrounded by a rich aquatic world, facing the fauna and flora of the Creeks National Park. The natural and cultural heritage of Green Island will only enrich this excursion. From the 17th century, the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Louis forts were built in order to bring to the maritime frontage of the time a strategic observation point. Gery fort was built in 1812 after the failure of an attack by the British Army, before being completely razed by the German Army during the Second World War. It wanted to set up a real base camp on the island, hence the construction of many blockhouses.

Today there are only ruins of these fortifications following the American bombardments of August 12, 1944, but it makes the current cultural heritage of the Green Island.

Initiation à l'apnée dans les calanques de La Ciotat

Through one of our partners on our nautical activities, Abyss Garden, initiation to diving and underwater snorkeling will also be an opportunity for you to discover an incredible natural heritage. The soil of the island is mainly composed of pudding, a mixture of pebbles and sand that have been transported over long distances by strong sea currents, and whose appearance has hardened over the years. You can also find this same type of rock if you go on the Cap Canaille or "Bec de l'Aigle", famous cliffs of Cassis and La Ciotat creeks.

Once under water, you will be faced with a large-scale living world, be it marine animals like fish, crabs and starfish as well as flora.

Take part in an unusual nautical activity, learn the breathing techniques and go underwater to explore the seabeds riches of the creeks ! If you are fond of nautical activities, you can also test an outing in stand up paddle, a new sport of gliding straight from Hawaii ! And for the more sporty of you, excursions in electric mountain bike can be organized towards La Ciotat, you just have to contact our team at 04.88.44.48.57 or send us an e-mail to contact@active-road.com.

Now, go to the sport !
